Mangalore: Hindus and Muslims unite for samajotsava

MANGALORE Jan 26: Leaders of both Hindu and Muslim communities came together in Mangalore at a meeting held at the Hindu Samajotsva office on Friday with regard to holding the samojotsava peacefully.



Leaders of both communities and organisations like Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Vishwa Hindu Parishat, Catholic Sabha, Chair in Christianity of Mangalore University, Indian Union Muslim League, Muslim Central Committee, leaders from BJP, Congress and Janata Dal met together for the first time on a common platform and decided to sink all other differences and hold the Hindu Samajotsava peacefully. The samajotsava, being held in the city on Sunday, is the last one in the Southern region. Senior officials including Deputy Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao, Inspector General of Police H.N. Sathyanarayana Rao and Superintendent of Police B. Dayananda also attended.


Offering co-operation of the Muslim community chairman of the Muslim Central Committee and former chairman of the State Minority Commission K.S.M. Masood said that the Muslims would offer sharbat to the people taking part in the Shobha Yatra.


District in-charge Minister B. Nagaraj Shetty called on minority communities to take part in the samajotsava. Inspector General of Police (Western Range) H.N. Sathyanaryana Rao said that such events should not attract major police security.
