Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Opposition leader VS Achuthanandan has come under severe criticism from various quarters for his statement that Uthradam Thirunnal Marthanda Varma, head of the erstwhile Travancore royal family, the traditional trustees of the famed Sri Padmanabha temple of Thiruvananthapuram, has been stealing the valuables of the shrine.

In this temple there are more than 250 staff and in that majority of them belong to Achuthanandan’s party’s trade union itself, Same is the case with 55 security gaurds in the Temple. The temple staff itself have now came out in open against their party chief’s diatribe against temple and Royal custodian of the temple. The temple employees’ union said that no employee of the temple had lost his job after being a witness to the “smuggling” of gold by Marthanda Varma as alleged by Achuthanandan. Temple Executive officer V K Harikumar told that – VS ‘s allegations are nothing but plain lie
