Police arrested 13 SIMI Terrorists which included Shibily Peedickkal and his Brother Shaduli who was arrested by the Kerala Police two years back and released due to pressures from Jihadi organisations.

It was now clear that the meeting held in Aluva was not a religious meeting as claimed by the Muslim organisations but a recruitment camp to mould deadly Anti national Terrorists to wage war against the Indian citizens, Not from the border but by staying within.

SIMI in Kerala

In Kerala, SIMI operates under the cover of some various front organisations, at least two of which are based in the capital, Thiruvananthapuram, and a third in the port city of

Kochi

. Kondotty in the Malappuram District has also emerged as a hot-bed of SIMI activities. An official declaration submitted on June 1, 2006, by the Kerala Government before the tribunal examining the legality of the ban on SIMI, indicated that the outfit’s cadres had ‘lately’ developed links with the LeT. Reports from various agencies, including the State Police Special Branch, further indicate that SIMI is operating under the cover of religious study centres, rural development and research centres. Some of these front organisations were spreading “extremist religious ideals” among sections of youth in Kerala by acting under the guise of “counselling and guidance centres working for behavioural change”.

Kerala Police and  Intelligence are aware of the clandestine activities going on in Kerala under SIMI, in cover of front organisations like    NDF, Muslim Youth Cultural Forum (Ernakulam), the Karuna Foundation, the Muslim Ikya Vedi (Alappuzha), the Sahridaya Vedi (Thrissur), the Samskara Vedi (Malappuram), the Muslim Ikya Vedi (Ernakulam), the Solidarity Students Movement and the Movement for Protection of Islamic Symbols and Monuments.

Although the names of these organisations sounds very much secular and peace loving, the covert operations have serious implications on National integrity and Security.

When the SIMI headquarters, the `Solidarity House’ in Kozhikode, was raided by the police in October 5, 2001, officials had stumbled upon account books showing contributions made to the organisation by “benefactors” in the Gulf through hawala networks. The other documents seized from the SIMI office included propaganda material printed by the Kashmiri militant outfit, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat-e-Kashmir. “The payments often ranged between 20,000 and one lakh Saudi riyals a week. No record was found on how it was spent. Some records showed that a fraction of such donations were used for providing training in karate and kalari to some of the SIMI cadre.

More than 10,000 crores of Hawala money is being routed from

Middle East

to Kerala per year, revealed Former additional DGP Jacob Punnoose  and SIMI’s role in Hawala operations were established but yet due to pressure from highly influential Jihadi groups the actions were limited only to those who act as carriers. One of the early SIMI leader is now an MLA in Kerala assembly with the support of Communist party.

Unless the mainstream political parties in Kerala stop wooing the terrorists the efforts of Police, the IB and RAW are in vain
