Jihadis have struck again, this time with a planned attack aimed at SreeMookambika Temple of Kalyangaadu, Meeppugiri. Following the vandalizing act, the Jihadis threw a panchaloha idol of the ‘upadevata’, into the dense forests. Along with mass destruction like thrashing out lighting facility of the temple, the miscreants are said to have littered the temple with soda bottles. Police have arrested three youths- Mohammed Siyad, Mehaboob Sherwani alias Shanu, Mohammed Ashraf alias Arsha in connection with the crime. The arrests were made by a team headed by Kasargode DySP TP Ranjith.

Reports state that the arrests were made on the very day the act of delinquency took place. The accused were remanded after being produced in court. Police have also taken into custody a bike used by the Jihadis. Sources say that the accused have been charge-sheeted with three cases- for vandalizing two houses and defacing a temple

The incident is said to have taken place at 3.00 am in the wee morning hours. Eyewitnesses said that around five people were seen running away from the spot. The houses in the vicinity were also not spared by the Jihadi vandals. They are said to have shattered window panes and smashed a car. Sources have revealed that the places near the temple are a practicing ground for Jihadi forces. It was only a few years ago that Jihadis desecrated the SreeDurga Parameswari Temple here, with the severed head of a buffalo.

Following the act of hooliganism, scores of devotees swarmed the temple premises. Sangh Parivar leaders have condemned the incident and have termed the occurrence as a “deliberately planned move by communal forces to disrupt the prevalent harmony of Kasargode” and that “forbearance of Hindu community should never be mistaken for laxity”. The leaders also warned against dire consequences if perpetrators were not arrested.
