Survey of Muslims: Congress and Communists stand exposed

THIRUVANAMTHAPURAM: The Congress and Communists in the country stand exposed following the outright refusal by General JJ Singh, Chief of Army Staff, to furnish the data about the strength of  Muslims in the Indian Army. “Ours is the most apolitical, secular and professional army in the world. We select people based on their intelligence, capability, physical efficiency and educational qualification. We never ask our soldiers about their caste, creed, religion or state of origin,” a visibly upset Gen Singh told a TV channel the other day. He was responding to the demand by the UPA Government for a survey on the Muslims in the Indian armed forces.

Experts in media and the armed forces term the move by the Congress led UPA Government as dangerous and with far reaching ramifications. “There are so many minority  communities in the country. But the Rajinder Sachar Committee has been asked to find out the strength of only Muslims in the armed forces. What about Christians, Zorastrians, Jains, Budhists and Sikhs?” asked Hari S Kartha, senior journalist, while participating in a panel discussion in Kairali TV, the CPM’s official news channel.  Tom Vadakken, the Congress spokesman, who was the other participant in the discussion, failed miserably to come out with a suitable reply. Vadakken, a retainer of the Sonia Gandhi household, went to the extent of telling that minorities are not properly represented in the armed forces. Hari Kartha pointed out that the forces were led by Air Chief Marshal IH Latheef, General Sunil Rodrigues, Admiral OS Dawson, Air Chief Marshal De La Fontain in the past. “These are just a few names in the roll of honour of the Indian armed forces,” Kartha retorted. Vadakkan, who was caught with his trousers down by the erudite replies of Hari Kartha took recourse to the usual stance of a  disgruntled politician. “See, it is to check the growth of people like Narendra Modi,” said Vadakken.

Vadakken was made to eat humble pie when Hari Kartha pointed out that the Congress and the Communists had raised a hue and cry when the then NDA government asked for a survey of all the religious institutions in the country. The Kairali News Channel was quick to wind up the discussion lest the masters of the Channel too would be embarrassed with more and more truths.
