On the ‘DECEIT’ termed as ‘INCULTURATION’

via LETTER TO INDIAN EXPRESS - H Balakrishnan published on March 12, 2009
DEAR SIR,

Reference the ‘ tucked – in – an – innocuous – corner ‘ news item

Priest admits to idol worship in Churches ” ( TNIE – 12 Mar – pp -10)

There is nothing ‘ surprising ‘ in the ‘
confession ‘ of Father Joseph Menengis about the ‘ deceit ‘ indulged in
by the Church in Bangalore in the name of the ‘ Only Begotten

Son ‘ !!

There is a welter of scholarly evidence available from ‘primary Christian sources ‘,  from the days of the Raj !! And , with Papal Blessings in this enterprise of ‘ fraud ‘. The ‘ best ‘
example is the ‘ caperings ‘ of the Italian Rev De Nobili -  the patron Saint of ‘ Inculturation ‘ or ‘ Indigenisation ‘,at the Madurai Mission (1606).
He learnt Tamil and Sanskrit. But he
could not pass as a Brahmin
unless he wore the ‘ sacred thread ‘ and grew a ‘ kudumi ‘ (tuft of
hair) on the back of the head. These were forbidden in Christianity by
a Church Synod. So, he sought an exemption from his immediate superior, the Archbishop of Cranganore. The Archbishop referred the matter to the Primate and the Inquisitor at Goa. Both of them approved
the masuerade!!
De Nobili composed several books and tracts in either Tamil or Sanskrit. His most ‘ brilliant ‘ performance was the ‘ production ‘of the “YESU-R-VEDA’!!, passing it off as the ” Yajur Veda “.

YESU is the Tamil name for Jesus Christ!!

The ” Ashram Movement “ of the ‘ Harvesters ‘ is part of the Church’s plan of

‘ Inculturation ‘ or ‘ Indigenisation ‘ and

‘ Dialogue ‘. In his doctoral thesis entitled – ‘ DECOLONISING THE HINDU MIND ‘ – the Belgian historian, Dr. Koenraad Elst,  quotes Winand Callewaert, a prominent Catholic Indologist, from a Vatican document of 1990 – Redemptoris Missio” – (The Redeemer’s  Mission – RM):
The Church by definition is missionary – – -. For our subject, it is
important to note that RM strongly emphasises the need of missionary
activity in Asia. For this ‘mission’, ‘dialogue’ and ‘inculturation’
are recommended as the best strategies. The challenge consists in
tuning that ‘dialogue’ to the primordial goal, viz evangelization.”  RM
continues to assert that ‘Christ is the only redeemer of all men.” (pp
-282)

Flowing from the foregoing, Christianity
had to drop its alien attire and get clothed in Hindu cultural forms –
as an indigenous faith. In short – Christian worship has to be conducted in manner similar to a Hindu ‘puja’; Christian sacrements have to sound like Hindu ‘samaskaras’; Christian hymns have to be set to Hindu music (already underway in Kollam – Kerala); Christian themes and personalities have to be presented in styles of Hindu
paintings (like the usage of “OM”) etc.

In addition, the literature of
indigenisation (from primary sources) provides ample proof that several
Hindu philosophies are being actively considered by the ‘ Mission
Strategists ‘. The Advaita of Adi Shankaracharya is a ‘hot’ favourite among the ‘inculturists’!! The Vashistadvaita of Ramanuja, the Bhakti of the Alvar Saints and the Vaishnava Acharyas, the Integral Yoga of Sri Aurobindo and the Vichara of Ramana Maharishi are not far behind!!

However, in the prevailing
‘secular’ environment in the country, bringing all the foregoing
‘deceit ‘ into the open is ‘COMMUNAL’. Swweping it beneath the carpet
is ‘SECULAR’, ‘ MULTI -CULTURAL’  and ‘PLURALISM’!!

Was left wondering, if the
‘opposite’ of the report had happened – Hindus in the dock – would it
not have been under ‘ banner headlines ‘ on the frontpage?!!

Mera Bharat Mahan!!

‘JAI HO’ – Nehruvian Secularism!!

CHEERS!!
