Oil, Gas and Money for Terrorism

via Synonymous published on May 11, 2009

The recent reports in the media about how a terrorist like Sarfraz could collect almost Rs 8 crores from Indians in the Gulf in the name of the four Malayali terrorists killed in Kashmir must be an eye-opener for all Indians. It is well worth remembering that this collection has happened very recently when the whole country has been discussing about terrorism in the aftermath of Mumbai terror attacks.  Sarfraz has been working in the IT industry in different countries in the Gulf for the past several years and one can imagine the amount of damage he must have done to our motherland by now. And he is just one Sarfraz who could be caught by Indian police.
Such incidents confirm the widespread feeling among us – that the worst enemies of India are the misguided Indians themselves. All those who hold their religious beliefs much about their national interests tend to develop into enemies of their nation at one time or other.  The false beliefs about pan-continental brotherhoods and false hopes about helping hands from across the border at times of distress are reasons that fuel such misguided youth. The availability of easy money and notions of brotherhood that are prevalent among certain sections of Indians in the Gulf (especially Malayalees) is playing into the hands of our enemies who are part of the official machinery in many of the Gulf countries.
Consumers dictate the market everywhere. Though India is one of the major consumers of Oil & Gas, we are failing to dictate terms with these Gulf countries who have only Oil & Gas to survive on. Many of these countries are taking our own money to fuel terrorism in India with the ulterior motive of breaking down India . When we give our money we should lay down the condi tion that Indian anti-nationals are not allowed to operate from the soil of these countries. Only a strict implementation of zero-tolerance against terrorism can guarantee a terrorism-free India . We have a lot to learn from USA on how to deal with terrorism and terrorists like Sarfraz.
