KOCHI: They are representing a section of people who had formed a new model of resistance in Nandigram to be replicated by the entire world.

Avani Das representing Bhumi Uchad Pratirodh Committee, Deblina Chakraborty and Chobi Mity representing Matangini Mahila Samiti and Vinayak Bhattacharya of United Students Democratic Front (USDF) from Kolkata were here on Wednesday to expose the happenings in Nandigram to the world.

“We do not represent any party, but the ordinary people in Nandigram. We want to unveil before the people here the role played the CPM in making Nandigram a warfront,” says Deblina.

She alleged that the current model of development proposed in Singur and Nandigram will benefit the foreign capitalists only, not the ordinary man.

“West Bengal is ruled by a fascist government politically and culturally. They are the agents of imperialism and servants of capitalism,” said Vinayak.

“The resistance had brought about a social awakening in Bengal which the state had never seen before. The CPM is trying to propagate the issue as a fight between the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the CPM.

But that is not true. It is actually a fight between the government and the ordinary people, “ he said.

He said that the people have misunderstood the BUPC as a committee of the TMC. It actually includes the people from the Congress, the Communists and the people without any tag of political parties.

Choby Mity, a victim of the agitation, said: “After the incident, I was separated from my family for almost three days.”

They said that though both Kerala and West Bengal are ruled by the communist party, here the environment is totally different.

“We know that land acquisition is also happening in Kerala for development but no one is resisting as the displaced people are getting good compensation.

But money is not alternative for the land as our existence depends on land,” said Deblina.
