Marxists, Muslims bhai-bhai in cyberspace

KOZHIKODE: The CPM has an Islam link in cyber space! No, it’s not another rare moment in the party’s ever-continuing courtship with the IUML, which is passing through an aggressive post-Malappuram conference era.

Log on to http://pd.cpim.org, the website of People’s Democracy, the English weekly organ of the CPM. One will not miss the links of four daily newspapers in Indian languages – Ganashakti (Bengali), Deshabhimani (Malayalam), Prajashakti (Telugu) and Theekkathir (Tamil).

A click on www. theekkathir.com will surprise even party general secretary Prakash Karat! A window opens to ‘Find what you’re looking for….Islamic Books, About Islam, Islamic School, Islamic Audio, Muslims, Islamic Shopping, Islamic Marriage, Islamic CD, Islamic Conference, Islamic Law.. .everything under Islam.’

The site also has interesting links – for online dating, popular destinations including jobs, health and beauty and recommended links for travel, computer notebooks and music downloads. ‘‘We empower individuals…specialise in Islam books, about Islam and Islamic school..’’ the site says.

Party leaders, however, can heave a sigh of relief by cross-checking with the party site www.cpim.org. There’s the link again. Only, this time www. theekkathir.in will take them to the party Tamil mouthpiece.

The wrong address (.com instead of .in) has been there for long in the website of People’s Democracy.

‘‘Do not succumb to all those propaganda about minority appeasement. Formulate sub-plan for Muslims with specific budgetary allocation in all development schemes in proportion to their population,’’ Karat had urged the UPA Government while releasing the charter.
