Alappuzha: State minister G Sudhakaran has again publicly spewed his hatred against Hinduism. In a recent function, Sudhakaran once again poured scorn on Hindu spiritual seers and ridiculed them saying that society today has Sanyasis, who are blissfully unaware of the changes that have taken place now, with stringed knickers becoming a thing of the past long ago. Sudhakran is said to have remarked that Christian priests who wear their robes that measure upto their ankles are infinitely better than them (Hindu spiritual gurus). Addressing the inauguration of the distribution of the funds of Mar Severios Educational Trust at Mar Stefanos Church in Veliyanadu, Kuttanad, Sudhakaran with his clear intention of hoping to appease the Christian congregation, has earned the wrath of Hindu organizations. A protest meet held in front of his residence saw a clash between Leftist workers and the peacefully remonstating members of Hindu  organizations.

Sudhakaran had stirred the hornet’s nest a few days back by making outlandish statements like “Hindu sanyasis not wearing undergarments”, while addressing a public meeting in Ambalappuzha. This time his statements were on “scantily clad sanyasis of Delhi who are without undergarments.” Referring to Hindu spiritual gurus as “archaic”, Sudhakaran said that in comparison to Hindu seers who are not properly dressed, Christian priests are far better. Gone are the days of stringed knickers. But they dont seem to be aware of this. Donning an underwear is anathema for them. However Christian priests were robes that fall till their ankles, which do not serve to cause any embarrassment for others,” he said in the presence of senior priests, with the clear intention of appeasement.

Making overrated statements like “the Church having played an integral role in shaping Kerala’s history”, one wonders who the communal forces were, whom Sudhakaran said was trying to “jeopardize the same”.

Hindu organizations have taken strong exception to Sudhakaran’s statements of ridicule directed against the reverential spiritual Gurus. A large gathering of over two hundred people marched to the minister’s residence, seeking unconditional apology for the statements. “The minister is insane. The Chief Minister must intervene and get him admitted to Oolampara at the earliest, for treatment,” said VHP’s district working president Sudarshanan Pattoor. “If this attitude of deriding Hindu sanyasis and the entire community continues, Sudhakaran will be handled the same way a rabid dog is handled. Isn’t Sudhakaran the same person who on the sly sought votes from the Hindu community, with the statement that “votes must be cast in his favour to ensure that the Muslim candidate loses!”
