Secretary, Higher Education Department,

Shri Kutralingam,

 Namaskar.

I wish to bring to your attention Christian religious preaching that was undertaken in Anna University, Guindy Engineering College on Monday, 22nd December, 2008.

Banners were put up announcing these so-called Christimas celebrations near the college canteen. The Chief guest to the function was not any famous or illustrious Christian in public life but a known Christian evangelist Paul Dinakaran.

This was an official college function
conducted during college hours with the presence of the Vice-Chacellor
Mannar Jawahar, a man professing the Christian faith.

In the course of the so-called celebrations, CDs and leaflets propagating the Christian religion was freely handed to students.

This evengelising meeting in the guise of
Christmas celebrations was conducted ironically in the Vivekananda
Auditorium of the college.
During this meeting, and in the presence of the Christian Vice-Chancellor students were told,

” those of you who are worshipping evil
forces (theeya sakthigal), if you wish to give up worshipping these
evil forces, and if you wish to worship Jesus Christ, close your eyes and raise your hands. I will lead you to Jesus “.

I express my my protest strongly to you Sir for permitting this kind of abuse of an institute of higher learning for Christian preaching purposes, actively promoted by the Christian Vice-Chancellor abusing his official position.

I have also come to know that in the hostel premises of Gunidy Engineering College, regular Christian prayer meetings are held for the students with nuns and priests walking freely in and out of the hostels.

This is a cynical abuse of the right to freedom of religion given to minorities with either the overt or covert support of the state government. Else how can one explain such free entry to nuns and priests into a college and college hostel?

I considered this a gross violation of the
constitutionally enshrined right given to religious minorities and
considering the violation of the law a grave offence, I had registered
my protest with the Commissioner of Police as an act threatening law and order. Calling Hinduism “evil forces” is also the grossest abuse of the constitution.

I will send in my protest to the Chief Minister too as well as marking a copy to the Chief Minister’s cell.

I would earnestly request you to reign in Christian
members of the faculty in colleges to deter them from brazenly
propagating their faith by abusing their position of power and
authority.

thanking you Sir,

Yours’ sincerely,
Radha Rajan.
