LDF GOVERNMENT ISSUES ORDER TO ERECT KAYYUR MEMORIAL   PLAQUE IN KANNUR CENTRAL JAIL

Kannur:As part of the ongoing Golden Jubilee celebrations of Kerala State formation, the LDF government has issued orders to the Kannur Central Jail authorities to erect a  `Kayyur Memorial Plaque’ inside the jail compound. The memorial plaque is being erected to commemorate the communist revolutionaries who were hanged to death for leading the Kayyur uprising.

The UDF and BJP leaders have raised serious objection to this government move which they cited as a blatant violation of the Prison rules and a glaring example of misusing the government machinery for party purposes.

UDF leaders in Kannur district has warned the government that they shall wage an agitation if the government decides to go ahead with this plan and made it clear through a statement that if the communist leaders wish to erect monuments for their party martyrs, then it must be done at party expense at a place owned by the party and not inside government establishment like central jail.

BJP district President Mr.P.K.Velayudhan made a statement in Kannur that, only the photo or statue of Mahatma Gandhi is allowed inside the jails and through this deliberate move against the established norms, the communists are trying to level their martyrs to the status of Mahatma Gandhi, father of the nation.  Therefore, such a move must be thwarted at any cost.
