Deceit and manipulation of the Media

published on March 15, 2006

Kerala is passing through cruicial days. Polictical parties are busy cooking up cunning strategies to hoodwind gullible public to grab power. in this context, several incidents need cruicial evaluation. . The SSLC question papers sent to the examination centres by private courier service were seized by some people and it broke out as a major development of the day. There was nothing unusual in the story since most people in the state feel that the Kerala Education Department, almost monopolized by the Muslim League, has been leaking question papers to the party cadre to increase their opportunity to gain an illegal upperhand in scoring high grades in competitive examinations. But it was the other news from New Delhi which was the main attraction. Taken aback by the series of bomb explosions staged by Islamic terrorists across the country and the indifferent attitude shown towards the massacre of poor Hindus by the union government, BJP, the main opposition party, decides to hold awareness programmes  all over India. It was announced that Opposition Leader Lal Krishna Advani and BJP chief Rajnath Singh will tour the country and address public rallies to inform the people about the callous attitude of the authorities in dealing with the terrorists. As the main Opposition party, BJP was discharging one of its important responsibilities by declaring to hold an awareness programme.

Strangely enough, one of the Television news channels in Kerala deliberately distorted and mutilated the essence of the news, thanks to the petty mindedness of one of its reporters based in New Delhi. The channel under discussion is Asianet. The reporter, none other than a CPM card holder Unni Balakrishnan is notorious for distorting news items related to BJP and Sangh Parivar. On Wednesday, his report on the BJP resolution was like this. “BJP has decided to communalize the Varanasi bomb blasts. Advani and Rajnath Singh  will tour all the states stoke  up the communal feelings all over the country. The BJP and Sangh Parivar are all out to intensify hatred among the Hindus!”  One can understand the logic of this statement had it been by the reporter of the Kairali channel since he is a bonded labourer of the CPM.

It is understandable that the Muslim League run India Vision  could distort such reports for nefarious purposes.  But a channel like Asianet which swears day in and day out that it is an apolitical telecasting such a news is uncalled for. Yes, the reporter is a hardcore CPM worker and is notorious for his hatred towards BJP and RSS. But as a journalist, his responsibility is to tell the audience what happened in the BJP meeting. Unni Balakrishnan can never be a political analyst. As on today he is another bonded labourer of the CPM who is out to prove his secular credentials and communist ideologue by propagating falsehood and utter lies. People like Unni
Balakrishnan are a bloat on the Indian media world.
