Clemency for Afzal-Another Muslim madness

via B.R.Haran published on September 30, 2006

The JeM terrorist Mohammed Afzal Guru was the mastermind of the terror attack on Parliament in the year 2001. If it had been executed successfully, it would have taken the lives of hundreds of our parliamentarians, but thanks to the security personnel, who have successfully defended our parliament, which is the ‘heart’ of our democracy. In the aftermath of the judgment on this case, it is the duty of each & every true citizen of this country to remember, thank & pray for the peaceful resting of the souls of those departed brave people, who have sacrificed their precious lives in defending our parliament.

The infamous & disgraced professor Geelani, who fortunately escaped from the clutches of law due to lack of evidence, is spearheading a campaign for clemency for Afzal. It is shocking & atrocious that the Chief Minister of J & K Gulam Nabi Azad has joined the other political leaders in this senseless campaign for clemency for the JeM terrorist Mohammed Afzal Guru, who was convicted & sentenced to death in this parliament attack case. While the embarrassed Congress party in Delhi is non-committal, the mindless Left front’s argument for reduction of death sentence to life imprisonment is condemnable. It is appalling to see a section of legal luminaries, self-styled intellectuals & the so-called human right activists campaigning for clemency for the dreaded terrorist, who has killed many innocent people by masterminding terror strikes. The argument put forward by the supporters of clemency that, the so-called & never ending peace process will be derailed if he is hanged, is utter nonsense and this type of campaigns should be nipped in the bud in the interest of the nation.

While the Hurriyat, Muftis (PDP) & Abdullahs (NC) are known for their anti national & pro Pakistan leanings, it is a disgrace that the CM Azad also has joined the chorus instead of arresting the protests & dealing with the protestors with an iron hand. His observation that more violence would occur if Afzal were hanged in the month of Ramzan is immature and it speaks of his weak & soft approach to separatist movement.

The Supreme Court has correctly judged the attack as the ‘rarest of rare’ cases & Mohammed Afzal deserves the death sentence. Let him give a ‘clemency petition’, but the true citizens of this country have the trust & confidence on the President that he would certainly value the bravery of those ten security people, who have sacrificed their precious lives in defending our heart of democracy, thereby rejecting the petition.

The great blunder of not revoking the ‘Article-370’ in the beginning itself is still haunting us, by slowly strengthening the separatist movement. It is high time the major political parties realize the danger of continuing with the article-370, which helps only in alienating J&K from the rest of the country. The onus lies on the main opposition party BJP to strongly revive its campaign against ‘Article-370’ and educate the people of J & K that their state will always be an integral part of India and that they should join the mainstream of the Indian society for their own well being.
