Stop Anglo-Indian privileges
Anglo-Indian nomination to the Lok Sabha and state legislatures is the ultimate of our enduring slavishness to colonialism. The country has less than a lakh of those people. Nobody knows the exact number. Yet two members from them are nominated to the Lok Sabha and one each to the Assemblies.
Â
The Article 331 Constitutional provision to afford nomination of Anglo Indian members is absolutely unreasonable and has lapsed in 1970; but is being continued through constitution amendment every 10 years.
Take Kerala. Kerala has less than 5000 of them. Let us say an MLA costs the State One crore yearly. On top of that, Pension facility to retired MLAs might make the entire lot of the community eligible for the pension one by one, before long. Imagine such expenditure all over the country for a mere one lakh people, most of whom still deem England, Portugal or France to be their motherland.
Has BJP ever opposed this situation?
