Kochi: A Hindu girl hailing from Pala and student of Tripunithura’s RLV College has attempted suicide, following mental harassment meted out by SFI leaders. Her condition is stated to be serious. The girl is said to have attempted to take her own life on Monday night. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad is organizing a statewide strike against Marxist atrocities against Dalits.

The victim who has been admitted to the medical college hospital, is said to have been one of the witnesses of a strife launched by SFI in RLV College in January. She testified to the college management against students’ wing of the red brigade, which enraged the SFI goons. Following this, she was subjected to deep mental torture by SFI leaders asking her to withdraw the statement, to which she refused to yield. This was followed by large scale attempts at character assassination.

According to sources, the victim is said to have made complaints to the college principal about the torture being meted out by SFI. “However, the management maintained silence over the matter, which was akin to endorsing the crime committed. The victim’s relatives have stated that the SFI goons even went to the extent of calling up her fiance, speaking lewdly about her, this with the sole attempt of sabotaging her forthcoming wedding,” said sources.

Things are said to have gone out of hand when SFI goons went to the extent of publicly humiliating her in the presence of a large gathering of teachers and students. “They openly issued threats to her, which was backed by a section of teachers,” said eye witnesses under condition of anonymity. Emotionally and mentally shattered, the suicide attempt came soon after the incident.

The ABVP has called for a strike which will include a protest march to the residence of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. There will also be a strike in educational institutions in Ernakulam district.
