Tribal groups stop religious conversion in Warangal, Andhra Pradesh
Khanapur: In Komatipalli tanda of Mangalaripeta panchayat of Khanapur mandal in Warangal district missionaries tried to take 200 tribal women to Bhuvanagiri for conversion in a DCM truck . Each women was promised old age or widow pensions ranging from Rs. 300- 1000. Under this pretext Rs. 50 was collected from each woman towards expenses.
On learning about the incident Vasu nayak, district president of NangaraBheri; Jagan, district head of Tribal students welfare association; Ponna Chandriah, Vice president of AP tribal welfare teachers’ association reached the spot and protested. A three hour verbal duel between these leaders and agents of Christian missionary agency finally led to the tribal women to their homes safely.
