Kochi: CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury has no doubt made a fool of himself by confirming justifying and above all, taking pride in the party’s dalliance with the Congress. Yechury had remarked quite triumphantly that like the alliance in West Bengal, the communion with Kerala will also reap untold benefits. His boot-lickers in Kerala now have a tough time, trying to defend their master’s statements following the mounting dissent that has been arising from party circles all over the state.

When the party’s West Bengal unit announced the matrimony with Congress, Marxists in Kerala, headed by their ring leader Pinarayi Vijayan aided by state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan ran helter skelter trying to denounce the news and paint Yechuri in sane shades. But later, when after the central committee meeting, the holy communion was declared official, both bigwigs sank into silence. They preferred to turn a blind eye over the matter. But when Yechury came up with the same statement in Kerala, the duo have started facing the ire of partymen in the state.

“To prevent Atal Bihari Vajpayee government from coming into power in 2004, when Left parties united with Congress, Left was able to secure 18 out of the 20 Lok Sabha seats. We have never secured such victory before or after this. We were part of UPA government in the 2004 Loko Sabha elections. Everyone said that Manmohan Singh could take charge as Prime Minister because of our support. And in the Assembly elections that followed, LDF secured 100 out of 140 seats,” said Yechury in an interview to ‘Telegraph’, the Kolkatta based daily.

Such statements from Yechury which make the Communist intent obvious has sent cadres in Kerala seething in fury, just that they do not discuss this in public owing to the elections next week. However, in most private conversations between comrades, the talk is only on Yechury’s betrayal of “Kissing Congress Hand”
