USHA Congratulates Narendra Modi and the People of India
May 16, 2013 – Atlanta – The United States Hindu Alliance congratulates Shri Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister of Gujarat and the Prime Minister designate of the National Democratic Alliance, for winning the general elections of 2014. In addition, USHA also congratulates the people of India and the Election Commission of India.
Ever since the independence of India, all political parties adopted a policy of appeasing sections of Indian society for short-term political benefit. In addition, despite the strong objection of Mahatma Gandhi, the Congress was transformed to a political party. This ensured the continuation of foreign influences in Indian politics, which led to the weakening of India’s economy and security. The emergence of Narendra Modi in the political scene created an opportunity for the people of India to dream of a brighter future.
For the past 13 years, Shri Modi had met every challenge he faced by converting each of them to an opportunity. His integrity, simple lifestyle, hard work, and a keen desire to innovate continuously to better serve his constituents have helped him win the hearts and minds of the people of India. For a person who had to face such insurmountable challenges, including significant personal attacks for more than a decade, Shri Modi has acted like a true statesman. We applaud his historic achievements and victory.
USHA also applauds the resolve of the Indian public to participate in the elections in such large numbers and strengthen India’s democratic culture. In spite of the scorching heat, India recorded the highest percentage of voter turnout since independence.
The 16th Lok Sabha election, held from April 7 to May 12 in 9 phases, was the largest such exercise in the history of the human race. The electorate, comprising 830 million people, the largest in the world, took part in the process with a great sense of passion and responsibility. Conducting elections involving such a large number of people is a herculean task by any means. While there were minor incidents of vote rigging and irregularities in voter registration lists, the entire process was fair and peaceful. Hence, USHA congratulates the Election Commission of India and all those who worked under its leadership for this historic achievement.
