Executive president of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Mr Ashok Singhal, has said that the society had neglected spirituality and as a result terrorism and crime were plaguing the world.

Speaking at the international conference “World Elders’ Forum” in the Rajasthan capital, Jaipur, the VHP leader said “We have lost humanity, and if the society has to emerge out of it, spiritual feeling has to be inculcated in people”.

Around 250 believers of different faiths from over 35 countries reported to have assembled in the city to discuss various aspects of spirituality, indigenous faith and traditional culture in the five-day conference.

“The ‘World Elders’ Forum’ is being held to show that spirituality is beyond religion and to focus on the universal approach of ethnic groups scattered throughout the globe,” its co-ordinator Yashwant Pathak was quoted by PTI as saying. Among those present at the forum yesterday were delegates from France, Lithuania and Guatemala who spoke on topics ranging from spirituality and its universal implications, ayurveda, cultural motifs, beliefs and rituals, the report said.
