Self Immolation by Buddhist monk against free hand to Islamists and Missionaries in Srilanka

Self Immolation by Buddhist monks to protest the against Communist regime’s action in China had hit the headlines several times in past years. Srilankan Buddhist monks are also following their path in protest against the rapid Islamisation of Sri Lanka. Buddhist groups have been campaigning against the slaughter of cattle’s and the free hand given to Islamists and Missionaries to convert by hook and crook.

Indarathana, A Buddhist monk set himself on fire outside the holiest Buddhist shrine in the country – the Temple of the Tooth in the central city of Kandy in protest against this Islamisation of the society. Many Buddhist monks are now coming forward to commit suicide if the government ignores a set of demands put forward by them.

“This is a sacrifice of a life. This is not a suicide,” the monk told the local Swarnavahini television cameraman minutes before the self-immolation bid. “There are over 5,000 cattle slaughtered in Sri Lanka each morning and it must stop.” In a leaflet distributed to devotees outside the Temple the monk said he was also against proselytising by Christian groups.

The cremation of the Buddhist monk took place in Sri Lanka yesterday amidst tight security in Ratnapura district.

    Sri Lanka in turmoil
The situation in Sri Lanka is a very complicated one. While there is no doubt that the Islamists and Christian missionaries are wreaking havoc in the island nation, there is extremism even among the Buddhists. Most of the Sri Lankan Tamils are Hindus, and they are being discriminated against by the Sinhalese Buddhist majority. Sacred Hindu shrines are being desecrated and destroyed and being replaced by Buddhist viharas ( a Buddhist avatar of Mahmud Ghazni and Aurangzeb? ). The LTTE was a Christian terrorist organisation funded by church organisations which are active even in Tamil Nadu. But all Tamils ( mostly Hindus ) are being blamed for the crimes of the LTTE. The need of the hour is HINDU-BUDDHIST UNITY in order to take on the jihadis and crusaders. But that can happen only if the Buddhist leaders shed their bias against the Tamil Hindus and stop the desecration of temples. A formidable Hindu-Buddhist alliance in Sri Lanka, Nepal and also in India will easily defeat the foreign-funded demonic forces.
