Panun Kashmir, opposes British ‘Interference’ in Kashmir

via PANUN KASHMIR - PRESS BRIEF published on March 15, 2010

PANUN KASHMIR expresses serious concern over the reported parleys being held by     ‘some foreign diplomats’ with the secessionist leaders in the Kashmir valley. After the failure of the recently held Secretary level Indo-Pak talks at Delhi , it is ironical that the government of India is allowing such parleys. The role of the Pakistan Embassy at New Delhi is also highly questionable in context of its organising the meetings of the secessionists. The Kashmiri Pandits would make it clear that they have the first and natural claim on the territory of Kashmir and any settlement that does not take into account their wishes and geo-political aspirations would not be acceptable to the displaced community of Kashmiri Pandits.

The recent reports of backdoor entry of terrorists from across the border and also from Nepal under forged passports are alarming. The government seems to be pooh-poohing on the issue and giving it a silent acquiescence. In some cases, the terrorists have reportedly returned alogwith a battery of children and we wonder if all such cases are allowed what effect would it have on the security and demography of the state.

PANUN KASHMIR views with serious concern the introduction of the Permanent Resident (Disqualification) Bill by a PDP member in the State Assembly. The Bill seeks to disqualify the permanent residence status of a state subject female of Jammu and Kashmir in the event of her marriage to a non-resident. This Bill is highly dangerous in the sense that it eventually would lead to a demographic shift in the population of Jammu province. At a time when the women of the nation are being empowered with 33 percent reservation in the polity of India , the draconian Permanent Resident (Disqualification) bill seeks to take away the hereditary rights of the women of Jammu and Kashmir State . Besides being anti human rights and anti fundamental rights in its nature, this Bill is in complete variance with the fundamental tenets of civilized societies.

The Kashmiri Pandit community had already opposed vehemently this Bill when it was introduced earlier in another form by the then government of the State. The people of this state have been witnessing a barrage of such anti-national and anti-people measures being taken by the ruling clique over the last one year. Despite strong opposition by the nationalist forces of the state, the ruling class seems to be determined to disturb the political atmosphere of the state. Instead of addressing the issues of displacement and measures to provide succor to the terrorism effected people of the state, the government is making efforts to disfranchise the womenfolk of the state by bringing draconian Bills in the Assembly. The PANUN KASHMIR will resist all such medieval measures that tend to discriminate between peoples on the basis of gender and divest people of their rightful claim on the territory of Jammu and Kashmir .
