DH News Service,Belthangady:

A boy from Australia and girl from Germany who were struck by cupid in England finally arrived in Dharmasthala to tie the knot. This looks like an episode from the silver screen, but it is a real life incident.

Retired lecturer of Economics Prof Subrahmanya Aithal has made arrangements for holding the wedding ceremony as per Indian tradition, which will take place at Mahotsava Sabhabhavana, Dharmasthala, on March 31 at 12.15 pm. The bride and bridegroom will close the chapter in their lives as lovers, just as the financial ear closes and will step into married life through ‘saptapadi’.The beginning…

Lance John Brendish (30) is a citizen of Australia, while Kareen Guntor (28) hails from West Germany. While pursuing her studies in Ayurveda, Kareen met Brendish who was a bank employee and love blossomed. Kareen is presently serving as a house surgeon at Alva’s College in Moodbidri. Brendish too is now residing in Mangalore. Dr S G Prasanna Aithal of Ujire had been to England as visiting professor for six months where she was his student. Hence the couple had arrived in Udupi for Dr Prasanna’s weeding on January 24. Here, captivated by Indian traditional marriage, they too decided to marry as per Indian tradition. Hence Prof Subrahmanya Aithal, father of Dr Prasanna Aithal decided to make arrangements for the wedding. A lunch will be arranged and jurnos have also been invited.

The couple will be converted to Hinduism through the ritual of Go Prasava Shanthi and the saptapadi, laja homa, navagraha shanthi and panigrahana will be held, Prof Aithal informed. Parents of the couple too arrived in Mangalore on Friday. After the wedding, the couple plan to reside in Australia.
