Murders of RSS workers in Kerala: CPM Attack on Democratic Ethos
The latest brutal killing of S.L.Rajesh (34),Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s (RSS) Basti Karyavaha (Secretary), of Edavaokode near Thiruvanathapuram in Kerala, has again brought the issue of murder politics by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI (M)] to the forefront. This is the 13th murder of RSS Swayamsevaks, apart from burning alive a woman member of BJP, in the last twelve months.
This history of murder politics by the CPI (M) goes back to 1969 when the first murder of an RSS Swayamsevak took place, when the Marxists realised the growing influence of the nationalist voluntary organisation. Since then around 300 Swayamsevaks are brutally murdered by the CPI (M) cadres. The politics is popularly known as the ‘Kannur model ‘ in communist circles and parlance.
After the emergency(1975-77), when there was a growing migration of communists towards RSS in the state, this onslaught increased many fold. The history suggests that this politics of
violence is not limited to CPM vs RSS as many intellectuals try to portray, but actually it has been CPM vs all others who try to stand up against their politics and atrocities, including theirown cadre who dare stand against the ‘Party’.
Despite being at the receiving end, RSS has always tried to get into a dialogue process, at least three times in the past. Each time it was responded with either a ridiculing or backstabbing by killing another Swayamsevak within months, thereby defeating the purpose. The unionism of Marxists perpetuated even in the police department does not allow free and fair investigation in any of these conspiracies. The structure of Party Villages, where no one can work except CPM (even political parties cannot run a campaign during elections), are the main source of communist supremacy in Kerala, where the criminal elements are nurtured.
Since the incumbent Chief Minister Shri Pinarayi Vijayan, who himself is from Kannur and was an accused in one of such political murders, took reigns of power, this violent politics has seen new heights. The State Secretary of the party K Balakrishnan is also from Kannur and now sheltering many criminal elements that are out of bounds from Kannur, in Thiruvananthapuram. This is spreading the phenomenon to other parts of the State.
This assault on Swayamsevaks especially coming from ordinary background and downtrodden castes is an attack not only on RSS but also on human rights and democratic ethos of the country. All concerned people, including the Union Government, media, human rights activists and political parties, should take serious cognisance of this trend and should take suitableaction as per the Constitutional provisions to save the ‘God’s Own State’ from the intolerant and violent ideologies of Communism and Islamism.
