KHNA announces ambitious scholarship program

NEW YORK : Kerala Hindus of North America (KHNA) the premier Malayalee Hindu organization of North America, has announced  a Scholarship program to provide financial assistance to bright and economically disadvantaged Hindu students of Kerala. The Chairman of the Board of Trustees made the announcement on June 6, 2006 in New York. Number of Scholarships will be determined on the basis of availability of funds. Initially five scholarships shall be awarded. Each Scholarship shall be a sum of $250.00 per year. It shall be renewed depending on the academic progress of the student, till the student completes the course of study to a maximum of 4 years. To be eligible for this KHNA Scholarship, student should be currently enrolled or planning to enroll in a post-Higher Secondary course leading to a professional degree program such as Engineering, Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacology. (Online or correspondence courses will not be considered for scholarships.) Combined annual income of the student and the student’s parents or guardians should not exceed Indian Rupees 50,000.00. Applicants should have scored at least 70% aggregate marks in the Higher Secondary level (12th Standard) examination. Applications for these scholarships should contain full details written on a plain paper. The application package should also include the following information.


 


1. Full name and full address of the student.


 


2. Full name and full address of the parent/guardian.


 


3. Full name and address of the Higher Secondary School from which the


    student graduated with the name of the Principal/Headmaster.


 


4. Full name and address of the higher education institution she/he is going to


    attend, with the name of the principal.


 


5. Address should include telephone number, Email address and postal address


    with pin code.


 


According to a press release issued by the Chairman, Mr Udayabhanu Panickar in New York, the following items should be included in the application package.


 


1.   A recommendation letter from the school authority, which should include the grades/marks, the student obtained. This letter should also state the character and extra curricular activities of the applicant.


 


2.   A copy of the mark list.


 


3.   Proof of admission to the higher education institution.


 


4.   A recommendation letter from a local Hindu community organization such as Kerala Harijan Samajam, Kerala Vellala Mahasabha, Sidhanar Mahasabha, Dheevara Sabha, Akhila Kerala Hindu Sambhava Maha Sabha, NSS, SNDP, Yogakshema Sabha etc as applicable to which the student and/or her/his parent or guardian is a member. This letter should include membership details and activities and services the applicant and her/his family offering to the organization and its members. Completed applications for must reach the official address of KHNA on or before September 30, 2006. Incomplete applications shall be rejected. Students will be selected based on their proven eligibility and recommendations. Eligible candidates will be selected by KHNA Board of Trustees and funds disbursed on or before December 31, 2006.
