Kashmir acquires top priority in the agenda of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) which it described as “one of the most important issues”.  The OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu was quoted as saying that â€œthe vexed issue was high on the agenda” of the 56-nation organisation.

Mr Ihsanoglu made the comments at the reception hosted in his honour by the Pakistan Consul General in Jeddah, according to a report. The reception was reportedly attended by hard-line Kashmiri Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who said “it is a good sign to show solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”

Claiming that “only self determination under the auspices of UN Resolutions” would be acceptable, he said “The final disposition of the state of Jammu and Kashmir would be made in accordance with the will of the people expressed through the democratic method of a free and impartial plebiscite conducted under the UN auspices.”
