Garbage, plastic waste found in containers

Kochi: A detailed examination of the contents of the three containers shipped from New York to Kochi has revealed that they contained garbage and plastic waste, Kerala State Pollution Control Board chairman G Rajmohan said. He said the examination of the containers was almost over and a report would be given to the Customs. “We will not permit this to be in the State,” he told reporters. Customs Deputy Collector NS Ramachandran said the containers had a mixture of garbage, plastic and wastepaper. A show-cause notice would be issued to the importer, Cochin Kadlas, a craft paper making company, and action would be taken under the relevant customs act, he said. The board had appointed a four-member high level committee to examine the containers after the Customs wanted a detailed examination of the contents.
