Victory to Church Talibans from Kerala

via HK published on June 27, 2011

So called panel of experts headed by Dr D Babu Paul to look into so called ‘Untruth’ about Roman Catholics in History text book of Standard 10 submitted their recommendation. And as expected the Panel advices the Educational department to remove all those Historical bitter Truths as it offends the Catholic Church.

Once again sacrificing the Historical Truths , Kerala will upheld Secular Ethos and will teach the students only those things which are palatable to the taste of Catholics.

Their objections was to the references about Catholic’s in Chapter ‘Aadhunika lokathinte Udayam’ [Dawn of the modern world] in which mention is made of the intellectual and social repression in Europe by the Roman Catholic Church  in the middle ages. They protest strongly against the passage that says that the Church was a feudal power oppressing the poor; and that clerical abuses included sale of ‘indulgences’ or pardon of sins, for money.

If you casually search Google for ‘sale of pardons by the Church in the middle ages’, it will be throw up a million authentic references including accredited Catholic sources,  to it as a purely historical truth. It is all part of the history of the development of the modern world.

Just by referring to the Oxford Pocket Dictionary of Current English on the word ‘pardon’ it states : par•don / ‘pärdn/ • n. the action of forgiving or being forgiven for an error or offense: he obtained pardon for his sins. ? a remission of the legal consequences of an offense or conviction: he offered a full pardon to five convicted men. ? hist. Christian Church an indulgence, as widely sold in medieval Europe.

However, the later Middle Ages saw the growth of considerable abuses. Greedy commissaries sought to extract the maximum amount of money for each indulgence.[33] Professional “pardoners”[4] (quaestores in Latin) – who were sent to collect alms for a specific project – practiced the unrestricted sale of indulgences. Many of these quaestores exceeded Church teachings, whether in avarice or ignorant zeal, and promised impossible rewards like salvation from eternal damnation in return for money.[31] With the permission of the Church, indulgences also became a way for Catholic rulers to fund expensive projects, such as Crusades and cathedrals, by keeping a significant portion of the money raised from indulgences in their lands.[31] There was a tendency to forge documents declaring that indulgences had been granted.[31] Indulgences grew to extraordinary magnitude, in terms of longevity and breadth of forgiveness.

But for Dr babu Paul andf his eminent panel – The above bitter truths should not be taught in schools as it will harm the facelift make ups done by Catholics over the years. The Educational Department will print new booklets at the earliest to please their real masters in Bishop houses.
