Kunhalikutty supported NDF Terrorists, Admits M K Muneer

After hitting the CPI(M) hard, WikiLeaks has now caused embarrassment to the Muslim League, second largest constituent of the Congress-led ruling UDF in Kerala.

As per US embassy communications quoted by WikiLeaks, senior League leader and present State Panchayat Minister MK Muneer had reportedly said in 1999 that party’s Industries Ministries PK Kunhalikutty had tried to help Islamist organization NDF (now Popular Front of India) infiltrate into the party.

As per the revelation, Muneer had communicated to embassy officials that the League had taken a position against such infiltration in 1997. But Kunhalikutty had supported the NDF move for infiltration into the party, the communications quoted Muneer as saying. Kunhalikutty was Muslim League’s State treasurer then.

The cables from the US consulate in Chennai, reproduced by WikiLeaks, also quoted Muneer as saying that the NDF did not have any connections with the Al Qaeda but its activists had come from SIMI. He is also said to have complained that money was flowing into the State through hawala routes.

However, Muneer denied the allegation. “Such an incident has never taken place. There was no need for me to make any comment on the party’s internal matters to US officials,” Muneer said.
