‘Free Desk and Bench Facility’ for Students of Minority Community

Kannur: Students of 10th standard, belonging to minority community, who happen to be below the poverty line, will now be entitled to a bountiful facility- they will be supplied with free desks and benches in the forthcoming academic year. The facility is being extended, following a directive issued to Deputy Directors of the Department of Education by the Directorate of Minority Welfare. The directive has sought an exact number of students of the minority community in each class, based on their presence in class. 5000 students from the Muslim community and 1000 students from the Christian community stand to benefit from the new schemes that are to be implemented based on the count.

A special team has also been constituted to personally supervise the task and ensure its meticulous implementation. The task of ensuring that these students indeed do belong to the BPL group has been assigned to the specific DDEs. It has also been specially instructed that no undeserving student should creep in, to become a part of the scheme.

The immediate directive is to provide free desks and benches to students, who have just completed their standard 9 exams, and are waiting for their results. In case of any lapse in implementing the instruction, it has been forewarned that those involved will be awarded stringent punishment.
The decision of providing these facilities has sprung from the Directorate of Minority Welfare’s decision that lack of basic facilities must not be a cause in deterring these students from performing well in school. The students will be provided quality desks and benches in their homes before the next academic year commences.
