Educational schemes for minorities in offing
NEW DELHI: The government is planning to roll out some new educational schemes for the welfare of the minorities, Union human resources development minister Pallam Raju has said.
Talking to mediapersons during the meeting of the National Monitoring Committee for Minorities Education(NMCME) Raju said that under adult education, a new scheme called Maulana Azad Taleeme-Baligan was being formulated to impart functional literacy to one crore Muslim in the age group of 15 years and above.
The proposed outlay of the scheme is ` 600 crore over the 12th plan period.
“I chaired the national consultations in this regard and had very useful feedback from the Madarsa boards, state resource centers, wakf boards and other such institutions working for the Muslim minority,†Raju said adding: “We have got some good suggestions on how to streamline and implement this scheme. The whole idea is to educate and enable them to stand on their own.â€
Raju said that the scheme should be rolled out in 3-4 weeks in 60-70 Muslim-dominated districts. Besides, this he said: “We are proposing a new scheme on the lines of HUNAR for skill development among minority girls. This will cover 9.20 lakh minority girls.
