HENB | Kolkata | February 28, 2016:: The state of West Bengal becomes gradually the most preferable terror hub of the Islamic State operatives and other Islamic outfits. A sinister plot hatched by global terror outfit Islamic State (ISIS) to orchestrate terror attack in West Bengal was busted with the arrest of Ashif Ahmed, an operative of the group from Durgapur on Friday, said officials.

As per reports, Ashif during interrogation revealed a plot to attack famous Tarakeshwar temple in Hooghly district. The terror attack would be most fatal at the time of Maha Shivratri festival when lakhs of Hindu devotees are usually assembled in the famous Taraknath Temple at Tarakeshwar every year.

The detailed plan and photographs of the temple was reportedly passed by Ashif to Zari, another IS operative. A mobile provided by Zari was also seized from Ashif’s home in Dhanekhali area, said police.

Both Ashif and Zari were in constant touch with ISIS’s second-in-command in Syria named Yusuf alias Sufi Arman, said officials.

Ashif’s arrest by NIA from the state has jolted the security establishment. The Islamic state is now feared to have penetrated deep inside the minority community in the state.

A recent survey had showed that after Jammu and Kashmir the most number of internet searches on ISIS originates in West Bengal.

An alert is likely to be issued in famous  Shiva Temples in West Bengal during Maha Shivaratri festival to avert any untoward incidents further.
