Malappuram: Hindus in Minority, Government Benefits Flow in for Muslims
Malappuram: According to the latest caste census revealed by Registrar General of Census Commission, Hindus in Malappuram are minorities with a population of 11,35,259 out of a total 41,12,920.Muslims are the majority with a total population of 28,88,849. In spite of these Muslims enjoy the benefits and incentives offered by the state government, those which are actually meant for minority communities.
According to reports, Hindus are sidelined and ignored by the state government, without any move on the government behalf to cater to their welfare. The reason quoted by government is that Hindus, according to the latest census report, form majority in the rest of Kerala and the whole of India, which is why they need not be considered majority community.
Adding insult to the injury is the attitude of Minority Commission which has decided to take sides with Malappuram’s majority community. A handbook meant for minority communities has been framed by State Minorities Commission. However, not a single instance related to the same has been implemented with regard to the Hindus of Malappuram. All this, inspite of there being four ministers and three MPs from the district.
