Mathrubhumi daily’s anti-Hindu report

The story published by Mathrubhumi Daily on 09^th May 2006 by a journalist Mr. Vinoy Mathew went like this:

“Bangalore : Early morning and the crowd is cheering and dancing. The drums were beaten announcing the arrival of ‘Bhootarayar’.  Suddenly the drum-beating became very loud.  Bhootarayr has come – red clothing, turmeric and saffron smeared all over the body.  He bowed before the gods and reached the middle ground. A devotee submitted a lamb before him. Rayar took the lamb in his hand, pressed it closely with his body, held its head in his hands and then bit the poor creature in its lower jaw.  In a few moments the flesh of the lamb from the lower lip to the neck was in Bhootarayar’s mouth.  The lamb’s cries notwithstanding, its brain and other organs are out in blood. The gory drama is enacted with a number of sacrificial goats. This is “Gavusikita”, a tradition followed for centuries in Muthinamma temple at Banasandra village of Tumkore district in Karnataka.  The bizarre spectacle is watched by the elite class there – doctors, engineers, IT professionals etc.   Everyone returns with blessings”

Now question arising in the mind of an ordinary Hindu reader of Mathrubhumi daily is how dare Mr.Vinoy Mathew to file such a report?  Even if he filed the report as a reporter, how come the Mathrubhumi’s editorial board ventured to publish this story which gives a totally negative impression about the Hindu temple there ?

This is not to forget that the traditions of Hindu society are easy prey for media men and artists who are crazy about public attention. Take the case of Mr.M.F.Hussein.  Once he painted goddess Saraswati nude and now he has portrayed Bharatmata similarly.  It is strange that there is no public response against this.  Any one who is responding is branded as a fundamentalist and opponent of artistic freedom.  This is not fair.

Hindu beliefs and traditions are free for all to mock at and throw the mud on !!! Hindus should raise their voice against such unjust reporting.
