Kerala’s visual media distorts Amma’s statement

KOLLAM : Kerala’s visual media people, who are expert and experienced in creating controversial and untrue stories, are not in a mood to leave Hindu spiritual leaders alone. They cleverly distorted a statement made by Jagatguru Matha Amritanandamayee Devi yesterday. During a press meet at Amritapuri, replying to a query by a journalist about temple entry for non-believers, Amma said, “I personally believe all religious people should be allowed to enter temples, provided they follow the traditions and rituals of each temple.  Each temple has its own traditions and anyone who follows these traditions should be allowed entry.”

This is how Amma’s statement was twisted by the visual media:

Asianet said, “Amritanandamayee has said all non-Hindus can enter temples”.

The editorial team of the channel simply ignored the rest of her statement.

Amrita News said, “Mata Amritanandamayee has said she personally feels all people should be allowed to enter temples.”

Amrita TV’s news team kept mum about the rest of Amma’s statement.

Accordingly to senior swamis of the mutt, Amma’s stand on temple entry is clear — that only those who follow a temple’s traditions should be allowed to enter it because temples are not tourist centres. Many swamis are not happy with the half stories about Amma’s statement created by the visual media including the mutt’s own TV channel.
