SFI and CPI (M) activists hacked ABVP leader and college union chairman of Guruvayur Sree Krishna College , Sanoop, a final year BSc Physics student, inside the examination hall at the college on Thursday. Sanoop was admitted to hospital with serious injuries. A group of 15 men attacked Sanoop while he was appearing for his first Chemistry improvement paper in the examination hall at noon Thursday.

Fellow students said Sanoop received hack injuries on the left side of his head, below the eyebrow and his left leg. His arm was broken, they said.

The student was in a critical condition on late Thursday evening.

The assailants, who entered the college hall with lethal weapons, drove the rest of the students out and hacked Sanoop, eyewitnesses said.

The ABVP had won the college union chairmanship for the first time in the history of Sree Krishna College . This was the only seat the organisation had won in the nine-member students’ union.

ABVP leader Ranju said that SFI and CPI (M) men had been threatening Sanoop with dire consequences from the day he had won the election. The SFI leaders were rattled by the victory of Sanoop, an ABVP leader in a predominantly SFI-dominated campus.

It may be recalled that CPI (M) men had hacked to death Yuva Morcha State vice-president KT Jayakrishnan in a classroom of Mokeri East Upper Primary School while he was teaching students nine years ago. The incident had created a lasting impact on the psyche of the students present in the classroom and several students could get back to normal only after several years.
