Molest case- Christian LDF leader is guilty
Thiruvananthapuram:
Chargesheet submitted by Chennai police Assistant Commissioner confirms that LDF
leader PJ Joseph is guilty in the case of molesting
a woman passenger inside a flight bound to Chennai to Kochi.
P.J.Joseph i s the leader of Kerala Congress (Joseph) an associate of
ruling LDF government headed by CPM. The
incident occurred in August 2006 and the woman, Lakshmi Gopakumar, a
co-passenger of Joseph in the Chennai-Kochi Kingfisher airlines, complained to
the cabin crew that Joseph had molested her.
The Kerala Congress leader had denied the complaint and said that his hand
might have accidentally touched her side but that he had not deliberately
outraged her modesty. This resulted in a major political scandal in the State
putting the LDF Government in trouble. With pressure mounting and the media
increasing its attack on him, Joseph, who was the PWD Minister in the
Achuthanandan Cabinet, had to tender his resignation.
The
Catholic church is one of the major supporter of his party and considers Kerala
Congress (J) as the representative of the community in the Left Governments in
the State. When he was the Educational Minister in an earlier Communist
Ministry, Many schools and Colleges were specially allocated to Christians completely
neglecting others in the state.
