Thiruvananthapuram, Monday, June 08, 2009: Though a call for hartal protesting against the Governor’s sanction to prosecute CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan was abandoned, the ‘Black Day’ observed by CPM has created chaos at many districts in the state, in Kannur, the CPM forte all shops are closed and vehicles are keeping off roads. Media offices of Mathrubhumi came under attack and the Newspaper bundles of Malayala Manorama, which was taken for distribution was burned.

In Olavakkodu near Palakkad, the protestors pelted stones at shops and created blockade on roads. Private bus services have been stopped for a while after stones were pelted on them.

In Aroor near Alappuzha, the national highway was blocked by protestors, and forcefully shut all shops. In Chertalai private buses were stopped and supporters of CPM blockaded Kochi-Madurai national highway.

Death Threat to Governor

Governor R S Gavai got a death threat over phone Sunday night. The call has been traced to have come from Saudi Arabia. The sources from Raj Bhavan exchanged every details of the phone call to the police.
