3rd International Ramayana Conference

Northern Illinois University, DeKalb (NIU), University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) and International Ramayana Institute of North America (IRINA) are holding the third Scholarly International Ramayana Conference at the DeKalb, Illinois campus of NIU in the United States on September 18-19, 2010. Scholarly papers are invited for the conference. Â About 30 scholars from different countries of the world will be presenting papers at this conference, which also includes K-12 teachers workshop.Â

Objectives of the Conference:

To foster interaction on Ramayana related studies among various academic institutions worldwide.
To promote a better understanding of various cultural traditions related to the Ramayana epic.
Provided below is an excerpt from UNESCO’s (United Nations Cultural Scientific and Educational Organization) addressed to the Institute, which has members from Indonesia, India, and Thailand.
According to a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) statement dated May 31, 2002, “…the objectives of the Ramayana Institute of North America are compatible with those of UNESCO regarding cultural diversity, dialogue among cultures [and the] dissemination of the values of one of the most ancient and productive civilizations in the history of humanity”
