2nd NEW ZEALAND HINDU CONFERENCE


Theme:Sustaining New Zealand Communities: through Yoga, Ayurved, and Meditation

You may be aware that the 1st New Zealand Hindu Conference, with the theme “The contribution of Hindu community to the national life of New Zealand“, was inaugurated by Hon. Helen Clark, the Prime Minister of New Zealand at the Hindu Heritage Centre (HHC), Auckland on 12 May 2007.

We are now pleased to announce that the theme of the 2nd
New Zealand Hindu Conference is “Sustaining New Zealand Communities: through Yoga, Ayurved, and Meditation“. It will cover the benefits in the area of health, education, and family and communities wellbeing. The conference will be held at the HHC, Auckland on 17 & 18 May 2008. One of the key outcomes expected from this conference is to establish New Zealand Yoga and Ayurved Research Institute, to promote these two time-tested practices for the benefit of whole New Zealand community.

We have excellent keynote speakers lined up to cover the major themes. Workshops will be conducted on these themes, and your active participation in the discussion will ensure representation of your views of points. We now look forward to the voluntary papers in the following (or related) topics.

YOGA:
(a) Benefits of yoga in physical and mental health
(b) Benefits of yoga in controlling obesity
(c) Yoga and school education

MEDITATION:
(a) Meditation and stress management
(b) Psychological benefits of meditation
(c) Organisational synergy in providing yoga and meditation services

AYURVED:
(a) Importance of Ayurved in clinical practices
(b) Indigenous medical practices of Maori community
(c) Ayurved for all from home to hospital

Last date for receipt of abstracts of voluntary papers: 31 October 2007

Please note that all the conference papers and workshop deliberations will be published and the copies will be available to the Government agencies, community workers, and the conference participants.

Some papers confirmed for presentation are from BKS Iyengar (a world renowned Yoga guru), Vice Chancellor of Yoga University, President of Sri Ramakrishna Vedanta Centre, Maori Elder on Traditional Maori Medicine, Vipassana Meditation, and many more to come.
