Why Two Laws for Nagaland and Goa?-BJP

via BJP Press Release published on January 3, 2008

New Delhi: It appears that the UPA government is all poised to illegally and clandestinely impose President’s rule in Nagaland, which will be absolutely unconstitutional and sans all political ethics & norms. It would possibly be a record and for the first time where a duly elected government is being placed under President’s rule a fortnight ahead of the announcement of the State Assembly elections. The decision of the Union Cabinet to sack the NPF led DAN government where BJP is a major constituent partner headed by Dr Neiphiu Rio is with an obvious design too manipulate and influence the forthcoming elections where the Congress party is in disarray and out of power since five years.

Pertinently if the ruling of the speaker disqualifying Members under the anti defection law is the premise for imposing President’s rule in Nagaland then the Union Government will have to immediately dismiss the Congress Government in Goa as the Speaker Sh. Pratap Singh Rane had acted similarly using the same provisions disqualifying three members from voting in the crucial vote on the floor of the Assembly 0n 30 th July, 2007 claiming to have mustered a majority enabling the continuation of the Digambar Kamat Government. Interestingly the Governor of Goa , Mr. S.C. Jamir, who has active interests in Nagaland had refused to take the appeal of the BJP led opposition in Goa and had obviously colluded with the UPA leadership at the centre. The Bharitya Janata Party would like to question how could there be two divergent laws and rules under the same Constitution and how such a glaring impropriety can go unquestioned in a Democratic State?

While the Left and other partners of the UPA have been usually giving moralistic sound bites, their deafening silence to the political sleaze in Nagaland truly depicts their double standards and blatant political dishonesty. The people of Nagaland have been watching the actions of the beleaguered UPA Government at the centre and they are all set to give a befitting reply to the unconstitutional action being thrust on them by the Congress leadership at center in the dawn of the New Year.
