THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi distributed wheelchairs to five differentially-abled persons at a function held at Sree Chitra Home here on Wednesday.


 The programme was organised by the Yuvahind Charitable Society.

 Speaking on the occasion, Vivek stressed the need for maintaining communal harmony in society. “Through charity, we are actually coming closer to God,’’ he said.

 Freedom fighter K.E. Mammen was honoured on the occasion.

 Vivek also planted a mango tree at Sree Chitra Home as part of the Haritakam programme conducted by NIMS Heart Foundation against global warming. He later interacted with the inmates of Sree Chitra Home.

 Health cards were distributed to persons hailing from economically weak families.

 The wheelchairs were sponsored by NIMS Heart Foundation, Yuvahind Charitable Society and the Haripad-based Holy Church Family.

 Federal Bank deputy general manager K.I. Varghese, Yuvahind general secretary Rahul Eshwar, Lions Club International district chairperson A.K. Abbas and Sree Chitra Home superintendent Elsy Abraham were present on the occasion.
