Vinayaka idol demolished in Tamilnadu

Villupuram:Following the demolition of a Periyar statue at Srirangam, Tiruchy, yesterday, miscreants and leaders of social outfits destroyed and vandalised a Vinayaka idol located on the road leading to Taluk Office at Sankarapuram early this morning.


Positioned inside a shrine on the roadside, the 1.5- foot high idol of Vinayaka was demolished by miscreants. Another shrine for Karpaga Vinayakar inside the Taluk Office was also targeted by this group. The top portion of the shrine with an idol of Ganapathy was also destroyed.


Sankarapuram Town Panchayat former president Krishnamurthy Naidu led a group of agitators who laid siege at the Taluk office for nearly two hours in the morning. Likewise, the town’s former DMK secretary Sadaiyandi and his followers blocked the road at the Sankarapuram junction for two hours from 8.20 am.


With  regard to the destruction of Vinayaka idol, the police had arrested Thanthai Periyar Kazhagam district secretary Natarajan, hailing from Nemaanur and belonging to Kolathur Mani group, his associates Nagapillai and Durai from Tiruvannamalai.
