Vajpayee stable, responding to treatment

NEW DELHI: Former Prime Minister
Atal Behari Vajpayee, undergoing treatment at AIIMS
for chest infection was on Sunday night stable and making
progress and responding to treatment, according to doctors
attending to him.

“His condition is stable. He is making progress.
We expect that he continues to make progress ahead.
He is still on the ventilator but is responding to treatment,”
Dr Sampath Kumar, head of Cardiac Thoracic Vascular
Sciences Department of AIIMS, told PTI.

“All the basic parameters like his heart, kidney,
liver and blood pressure are normal and his lungs are
recovering,” he said. Another doctor attending
to him said, “He is breathing normally.”

Scotching rumours about the health of the 84-year-old
former Prime Minister, Kumar said “his condition
has not deteriorated and he his making progress”.
Asked about Vajpayee’s respiratory tract infection,
Kumar said doctors have given him antibiotics and it
would take two to three days for it have their full
effect. “We will have to wait for a few more days
for his full recovery,” he said.

Vajpayee was admitted to AIIMS on Tuesday with complaints
of fever and chest congestion. Doctors later found that
he was suffering from pneumonia.
