Uthishta’s ‘Sponsor a Child’ program enters second year
Continuing it’s support to the underprivileged and weaker sections of the society, Uthishta, the Bangalore based social service trust has done it again. On June 15th, Uthishta’s representatives reached Nivedita Vidya Niketan, Kaniyambetta, Wayanad and handed over a cheque for Rs 3.3 lakhs in support to the educational expenditures of the 54 kids staying in Vanavasi hostels run by Kerala Vanavasi Vikasa Kendram. Sri Palliyara Raman, state president of KVK accepted the cheque on behalf of the hostel. Sulthanbatheri MLA Sri I C Balakrishnan inaugurated the function.
This program of Uthishta was started last year in which the same number of kids from this school were offered support to meet their schooling requirements in the form of fees, two pairs of uniforms, books and other stationary. This year, taking one step further, Uthishta has contributed another Rs 10,000 towards a new initiative to start Rural Education Centers in line with the popular Ekal Vidyalayas (One teacher schools). With this, part-time teachers will be sent to Vanavasi settlements to give the kids the light of education. Because of their peculiar life styles and other limitations, there are many children still unable to attend regular schools. Ekal Vidyalaya has been a great success in taking education to their door steps. Uthishta has bigger dreams of supporting such children with facilities for vocational training so that, they can start supporting their families on completion of their education.
Further to this, Uthishta has decided to sponsor 200 educational kits to children living in slums in Bangalore through Keshava Seva Samithi. Each kit costing about Rs 250, the total expenditure of this project comes to Rs 50,000. KSS is an initiative by Swayamsevaks of Bangalore who conduct classes for the poor kids in the slums. A public function is being organized on 5th July Saturday in Jeevan Bheema Nagar, Bangalore for the distribution of the kits.
The next important cultural activity coming up is the one week long Satsang by Srimad Swami Chidanandapuri. Swamiji who is well known for his in-depth knowledge of Hindu scriptures and Vedanta is visiting Bangalore from 10th to 16th of August. Along with this, a five day intensive course on Prashnopanishad is also being organized. Members of various Hindu cultural organizations are thrilled on this news and eagerly waiting to attend Swamiji’s enlightening discourses and classes.
Blood donation drive, participation in the Kumudavathi River Rejuvenation project and presentation of Uthishta Seva Puraskar are the important programs of Uthishta coming up in the second half of this year.
