Many
of us consider Sikhandi, the legendary eunuch in Mahabharata, as a
worthless and disgraceful character. But it is not so. If you read
carefully and between the lines, Sikhandi had several qualities and
most importantly he was born to fulfill a great objective. He was very
learned and also a warrior of repute. He knew his role well and he knew
he will be used for a dubious purpose. He carried out his role very
effectively in the drama to kill one of the best warriors India has
ever seen. But
whatever be his qualifications and qualities, he still lives in Indian
minds as a good-for-nothing and villainous character. I am afraid a
similar fate awaits our Dr. Manmohan Singh, the unelected PM of India.

Dr.
Singh is highly qualified and has already demonstrated his abilities as
an able administrator under Rao’s leadership. Yet he was never elected
as the Prime Minister of the country, but nominated by someone who
wanted to appease the Sikhs
for their massacre by the Congress party in 1984. If that is the reason
that his godmother wants the whole world to believe, the real reason
lies somewhere else. He is the modern day Sikhandi who is being used
for keeping the PM’s seat warm for the dynasty kid to take over at an
appropriate time. If UPA can manage a majority again, we can see the
‘un’timely exit or even demise of the sardar by the end of 2010.

Â
Sardar’s
ordeal does not end with all these. The stop-gap PM is also being made
an ‘undemocratic’ ass by not allowing him to contest for Lok Sabha even
after five long years as head of the government. Â And
finally when his role gets over and the elected kid takes over, the
Sardar will stand accused for subverting the spirit of our constitution
by opting to evade the electorate. His name will go down in history as
the longest serving unelected PM of India . The sardar knows it well,
but like Sikhandi he is destined to play his part well in the drama of Indian democracy.
