Tourists come here not to see beauty parade but to see our beautiful motherland – Amma

Amala Bharatam – An initiative by Mata Amrithanandamayi Matt for a clean environment was launched on Oct 31st. Hundreds of volunteers converged on the national highway in the afternoon and started clearing up the garbage dumps. While many were busy clearing the heaps of waste, few  batches were spreading the awareness by visiting the roadside houses. Few others engaged in tying banners, some of them engaged in digging pits to dispose the degradable waste.

It was a different sight for the onlookers who used to see devotees only busy in their prayers and bhajans. It is definitely an initiative worth emulating by our voluntary organizations.

“We parade beautiful girls to welcome and receive tourists. But those tourists when go around can see only places littered with garbage. In reality, they come here to see our beautiful motherland. But we don’t realize that. Our beautiful motherland appears like a leprosy patient now. This lost beauty, health and cleanliness of our motherland is what we need to retrieve first.” – AMMA
