Terrorist “IMAM” under arrest

Mumbai: An “imam” of a mosque in Mumbai was arrested on Saturday by the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Mumbai Police for his alleged links with three suspected terrorists of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba, arrested last week in the city.


The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of the city police arrested the Imam Maulana Gulam Yahiya from the Haj House mosque in south-central Mumbai late Friday night for allegedly providing shelter to the three suspected LeT terrorists arrested Jan 7 here.


The “imam”, who leads prayers in a mosque, was arrested under several sections of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), 2004, Jaijit Singh, Additional Commissioner of Police Jaijit Singh informed a news agency.

Police had then recovered 20 detonators, five timers, four remote control devices and two electronic circuits used for assembling improvised explosive devices from the accused, besides one American pistol of 8.32 mm calibre along with six cartridges.
