Swamy writes to Tamil Nadu governor, seeks action against Karunanidhi
Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy would submit a petition to Tamil Nadu governor on Monday seeking sanction to prosecute Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi for allegedly misusing his discretionary power in allotting plots to unauthorised people.
Swamy’s decision to prosecute the chief minister, along with some government officials, comes following a report aired by Headlines Today that exposed the state government’s discretionary allotment of plots belonging to Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB).
Swamy would seek permission to prosecute Karunanidhi under Section 13 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Swamy alleged that the chief minister arbitrarily retained 15 per cent of the number of plots laid out under a TNHB scheme for discretionary allotment by the chief minister.
The state government had constituted TNHB to develop housing projects for low and middle income group families and allegedly acquired the land for it very cheaply.
