New Delhi: Indian Judiciary is the only exception when coming to the Minority appeasement policies practiced by the Government and Media and safe guarded the constitutional rights of the citizens irrespective of one’s Religion.

On Wednesday, while responding to the campaign of Christians for reservation for Dalit Christians, court  asked “whether Christians also practised caste system”

“Would the Christians admit that they practise caste system and that Dalits (among them) face social discrimination requiring reservation to uplift their cause? This is not all that easy,” observed a Bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan. Court send notice to centre directing to report back on the issue within eight weeks.

The court, however, felt that the matter was best left to the Centre. When pressed further, it said to adjudicate the issue it would require the views of Christians and wondered whether they would admit practising the caste system.

Advocate Shanthi Bhushan and Ram Jethmalani appearing for Christians want to scrap the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order, 1950, restricting reservation benefits to scheduled castes among Hindus, Buddhists and Sikhs.
